Session 1: June 12 -13, 2019

Registration for Session 1 is for 4 delegates from each NWT region


Session 2: June 15 -16

Registration for Session 2 is for residents of Yellowknife and Yellowknives Dene Fist Nation


This two-day course will provide participants with the requisite skills to become a prospector in the Northwest Territories. The course involves classroom learning on Day 1 and field training on Day 2. 

The course content covers how to prospect, claim staking, assessment regulations, marketing yourself and your properties, basic geology, and the exploration cycle. In the field training portion of the course, students will take a hands-on approach to prospecting using tools that will be provided. They will also explore local terrain and see a stake claiming demonstration.

A $50 dollar fee is required in order to provide tools, a prospecting license and tags, and lunch.


Program Eligibility

To be considered for the program, applicants must meet each of the criterion listed below:

  • Open to 4 delegates from each region in the NWT
  • Must be 18 years of age prior to commencing the training program
  • Must be an Northwest Territories Resident
